Materialization of Absence: Two Approaches
Ryuji Okuzono’s practice rejects the weightlessness of digital prints. His work is defined by the physical "Materialization" of digital data through two distinct methods.
Carbon Sedimentation (Kyokushi):
For the "Carbonized Silence" and "Botanical Agape" series, the image is not printed on the surface but sedimented into the fibers of "Kyokushi" (Japanese Bureaucratic Bond). This creates a texture akin to skin or fossilized carbon, preserving the pulse of the subject.
Resin Stratigraphy (Deep Focus):
The "Memory Sediment" series pushes this materiality further. The image is suspended within multiple layers of transparent resin, creating a physical stratigraphy. This process transforms the fleeting signal into a solid block of time, giving the "Absence" mass and gravity.
2. EDITIONING POLICY
Strict Limitation: Edition and Format
To preserve the "gravity" of the physical artifact, the editioning structure is strictly controlled based on the nature of the work.
Limited Edition (Flat Works):
"Carbonized Silence" and "Botanical Agape" are issued in a strictly limited edition of 10 (+ 5 Artist Proofs). Each piece is produced on A3 format Kyokushi, treated as a "Clinical Specimen."
Unique Piece (Sculptural Works):
"Memory Sediment" is produced as a Unique Piece (Edition 1/1) due to the fluid nature of the resin curing process. No two blocks are identical. This guarantees that the encapsulated time exists only within that specific coordinate, ensuring absolute rarity for collectors.
3. PROVENANCE & AUTHENTICATION
The Official Record: Statement and Seal
Every acquisition is accompanied by a unique Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) that functions as the work's "Medical Chart." Distinguishing itself from standard documentation, this CoA acts as a conceptual extension of the "Clinical Gaze."
Authenticity is solidified by the artist's hand-signature and the traditional Red Seal (Hanko). By utilizing the same bureaucratic aesthetic as the Kyokushi paper, this document bridges Japanese heritage with contemporary fine art standards, providing an absolute record of the work's lineage.
